Martingale Collars: Why we use and love them

Most pet owners run to the store and start immediately picking out a collar, leash, and toys for their new pup.

But most owners simply pick a collar based on color and size and not actual function.

For this reason let's talk about our favorite type of basic collar that you should consider grabbing for your dog. They are called martingale collars and what sets them apart from your regular buckle collar is that they will tighten if the dog tries to slip out of them. Unlike an old school choke chain, they won't infinitely tighten (yikes!) but it'll be enough to prevent a dog from escaping out of their collar. For us, no escaping the collar is obviously very important.

They still come in a variety of colors, sizes and patterns so no need to sacrifice fashion. But while you're at the pet store, definitely consider looking for a martingale collar over a regular buckle collar for safety considerations.
