If you have gotten a new puppy, you have probably worked your way through all the blogs and internet articles and found the standard tips for potty training. You have your crate set up or maybe have invested in a potty tray with pee pads. You have a strict routine for food and are letting the puppy out like clockwork.
But let me give you one simple tip that will be a game changer for your potty training that you probably haven't read about online.
One of the ways I ensure quick potty training of my puppies and honestly they learn to signal to potty outside early is I set up their water OUTSIDE.
This gives a few benefits.
First, can we say no more water puddles across the kitchen floor?
Second, once your puppy knows the water is outside they will walk towards the door to get you to open it when they are thirsty. Often they will get a drink, wander over to the grass, and go pee.
And I know, the internet warriors are aghast at the idea that the puppy doesn't have 24/7 access to water. But as we already established, you are already outside several times a day giving access to that very water bowl so their not exactly being deprived.
Obviously this is a better fit for some scenarios (those with a doggie door) versus others (those with no yard). But its one simple tip that will hopefully be another tool in your tool box to help potty train your puppy.
